The Promise Boundary
Tell the difference between explaining approved value and making an unsupported promise.
Customers trust employees to give accurate information.
A confident but inaccurate answer can create more harm than a careful, transparent one.
The goal is not an immediate answer to every question — it is the correct next step.
Can I say this, should I verify it, or must I escalate it?
Every customer statement in this module gets one of these labels. Each one has a word and an icon — never a colour on its own.
Where your authority ends
Approved value on the inside. Unsupported promises on the outside.
Select any item to see why it sits where it sits.
If a statement is not clearly inside the boundary, it is a Verify First or an Escalate — not a guess.
The same topic, three different answers
The label depends on what the answer depends on
“Membership is the program. Passport is the platform.”
Approved positioning — accurate in every conversation.
“Essential, Valued, and Preferred offer different levels of support and service depth.”
Approved tier framing, with no coverage promise attached.
“Does this exact service qualify under my guarantee?”
Depends on the service, provider, eligibility and terms — confirm before answering.
“Can you approve my refund right now?”
Approval authority. Document and route — never approve or deny it yourself.
Phrases that cost trust later
Classify it before you answer it

Check your understanding
“Membership is the program. Passport is the platform.” This statement is…
Which statement is an unsupported promise?
If you are unsure whether a specific service qualifies, it is better to give your best guess than to say you will verify.
A customer says: “Can you approve my refund right now?” What is this?
Confidence means knowing both the answer
and the boundary of your authority.
You can now…
- Recognize an unsupported promise
- Identify what is safe to explain
- Know when context must be verified
- Know when another role must take ownership
